Study Abroad to the UAE!

Experience #5: During December of 2025, I was able to travel to the United Arab Emirates for 10 days and learn more about doing business in the Middle East!

This course provided a deeper understanding of business, cultural, social, economic, legal, and more issues and the potential impact on social and business relations in the United Arab Emirates, as well as the broader Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. I was able to hear from many speakers both around my age and older who have studied and lived in the UAE and learn about what their experiences were like, both culturally and professionally. While many may view Dubai and Abu Dhabi as two incredible "up and coming" emirates (and they are), there is more to the environment than that. Over the course of the semester, I read and wrote about two educational books about the MENA region that discussed both the innovative and hidden parts of the country that we wouldn't have much way of knowing about. It opened my eyes wide to the disparity that can exist behind a beautiful charade, as well as the economic impact innovative ideas can have.

While in country, we had the opportunity to visit 5 out of 7 emirates, each with different histories, leaders, and development. One of the emirates we visited was Ras Al Khaimah, where we were able to visit and hear from speakers at RAKEZ (Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone). As a business economics major myself, this was a highly anticipated company visit for me, and extremely valuable. We also heard speakers across other emirates in the hospitality, finance/banking, veterinary, insurance, and investment industries. With so much exposure to various related industries, I found this trip so unique and valuable to my growth as a business professional as my perspective and global awareness continued to expand!
